April Folz

Business Development & Training Support

April Folz is a member of Sheshegwaning First Nation, and originally from Serpent River First Nation.  April is a mother of 4 children, 2 step-children, 1 dog and 2 cats. She lives with her spouse Joe in beautiful Sheshegwaning.

As Business Development and Training Support for ISN Maskwa, April works alongside a team to plan and organize the security training courses for future Community Support Personnel.

After spending the majority of her working life in management roles in multiple areas such as San Francisco, Tim Hortons and Rexall/Pharma Plus and a couple of years being a stay-at-home mom, when reentering the workforce, she found her education inadequate. April enrolled in the Local Economic Development Program with Ryerson University and graduated in 2020, achieving an education milestone that had been years in the making. April had been the Economic Development Director for Sheshegwaning First Nation bringing many different economic opportunities to her community. April found her passion in creating a security guard company - Sheshegwaning Naagdawenjgek, which is now Naagdawenjgek Security Professionals, who's main focus is helping First Nation communities who have had to evacuate due to wildfire and floods. After the first deployment, April found that the guards, while very well trained as security guards, were missing essential training. She went about getting support to create a top-notch, one-of-a-kind, highly trained Indigenous security guard training package that included Mental Health First Aid and Search and Rescue delivered by First Nation People.

April is currently enrolled at Queen’s University, studying to receive her Bachelor of Education to become a teacher in her community. The program was designed for working Indigenous people which has allowed April to continue to work on her passion project coordinating the security guard trainings.
