John Syrette

Unified Incident Commander

John Syrette is a member of the Garden River First Nation and is the Unified Incident Commander for ISN Maskwa. In his role, from ISN Maskwa’s Indigenous Emergency Operations Center, John oversees the incident command team through deployments ensuring the team strives for success and meets the mission goals.

John is a retired Police Chief of the Anishinabek Police Service, former Ontario Provincial Police Officer, a former co-chair of the Ontario Justice Partners Serving Victims and a long-serving member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Victims of Crime subcommittee. John was a long-standing executive member of the First Nations Chiefs of Police Association and served two terms as Association President.

During his time in the OPP John was part of the UCCM Police Service transition team, as the police service moved from the OPP program to autonomy.

His hobbies and interests include reading, hunting, spending time with family and exploring the outdoors.
