Ernie Louttit

Emergency Planning and Community Engagement Coordinator

Ernie Louttit has 27 years of civilian law enforcement experience and eight years of military service in the infantry and military police. He has extensive experience in all aspects of policing and emergency response having worked alongside all sections in the police service, fire and paramedics.


Ernie retired from the Saskatoon Police Service in 2013 with the rank of Senior Sergeant. In this role he directly supervised 12 Constables and oversaw a platoon of 40 Constables. He supervised initial responses to all major incidents, delegating and marshalling resources. A third of each year he spent as Acting Watch Commander, overseeing an entire platoon including canine and traffic officers. On night shifts he was effectively in charge of police responses in a city of 270,000 people. He also was the media contact after hours and was responsible for press releases. Ernie specialized in patrol embracing all aspects of a challenging, dynamic and high visibility part of all police services. It enabled him to work with all sections of the community at large and allowed him to mentor and train future leaders and investigators.


Ernie Louttit has completed professional courses at the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Battle School at CFB Wainwright, the Military Police School of Intelligence and Security at CFB Borden, and the Saskatchewan Police College including Executive Leadership Development, Major Case Management and Critical Incident Management.


Ernie is a well-written, successful author having written three bestselling books on Policing and Leadership. He has been a keynote speaker on the topic of leadership to over 200 different organizations of students, police, senior management and Indigenous communities.
