We are thrilled to welcome Mike Abbott into his new role as our Director of Investigations and Client Engagement. To honour Mike, we wanted to take a closer look at his work and his journey to ISN.
In his new role, Mike oversees the bulk of our corporate investigations. His team regularly works with law firms, police associations, and various corporate clients to assist with their investigations.
Mike is proud of the expertise that ISN’s former police officers can bring to the table. Their innate detective skills mean that they’ll often find the pieces of the puzzle that others might miss. For example, in a motor vehicle accident case that involved an animal our investigators were able to use skills to determine how the animal got there, what farm it had escaped from, and can help assess whether the farm owner has any liability.
Mike’s team is frequently asked to testify in court, and provide expert evidence from their findings. They handle niche matters such as fraud, use of force, accident investigations, internal harassment complaints, parallel investigations, and civil law suits. Their wisdom and experience enable them to support clients in complex cases effectively.
ISN was recently involved in a particularly complex investigation involving a federal nominee. A prestigious law firm was hired to investigate his background after controversy arose, and they in turn hired ISN. ISN quickly found evidence of prior statements and recordings, made under a different name, that called the nominee into question. ISN was proud to be named alongside the firm in the investigation report. As a result, the nominee resigned prior to starting his new position.
Mike worked for the Toronto Police Service for three decades until his retirement in 2016, and then stayed on as a consultant until 2019 with the Toronto Police Association. After a brief period of retirement, he joined the ISN team three years ago as an Investigator before transitioning into his new role in July of this year and has never looked back.
The ISN team is well equipped to assist with a variety of corporate investigations, and we’re grateful to have Mike Abbott leading the charge.
