ISN Cheque Presentation | ProAction Cops & Kids

On Thursday, October 10, 2019, Investigative Solutions Network CEO, Dave Perry, presented Durham Regional Police Chief, Paul Martin, with a cheque from donations raised by ISN's 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament.

This year’s tournament raised more than $20,000 for the Durham Chapter of ProAction Cops & Kids. Proceeds will again be directed to the chapter, which works with the Durham Regional Police Service to fund programs, benefiting local youth and police.

“Our partnership began in 2007, using the Toronto Chapter structure for its foundation, and has grown into funding almost 20 programs per year, totalling approximately $45,000 in grants each year. The Durham Region Chapter has been steadily growing since its inception and continues to maintain and expand a strong and dedicated Council and police officer partnership,” the charity says on its website.

The program has chapters in Durham, Toronto, Niagara, Hamilton and Halton. Started as a charitable organization in Toronto back in 1991 by business leader John Bitove Sr., ProAction Cops & Kids strives to unite police and kids in “skill-building and mentoring programs to create trust, respect and safer communities.”

The organization backs community-based programs created and presented by police officers that specifically relate to at-risk young people.

“We believe that engaging cops and kids together in healthy, pro-social activities creates positive relationships and builds a mutual respect and understanding that strengthens our community today and for the future. The skill-building aspect of many ProAction programs often leads to educational and career opportunities for the young participants. Many participants even become interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement due to the mentorship of the police officers leading the programs.”

To date, more than 400,000 young people have participated in more than 2,000 ProAction programs delivered in partnership with more than 18,000 police officers from the chapters.
